While doing research for our Pat Boone interview last month, I was surprised to learn that in addition to selling millions of records, starring in over a dozen Hollywood movies, owning an interest in two basketball teams, founding his own record label and starting Pat Boone Meats, Mr. Boone also found time to lend his likeness to comic books!
In 1959 (the same year that Journey to Center of the Earth hit theaters), Mr. Boone made an appearance in DC Comics’ Superman’s Girl Friend, Lois Lane #9.
The issue included the story “Superman’s Mystery Song” in which Pat and his new singing discovery Lois Lane perform a song with the potential to reveal Superman’s secret identity. The solution? Superman must use his powers to stop the song from being a hit.
Mr. Boone then went on to star in his own DC comic series, which ran for five issues from September 1959 to May 1960.
